Question:
Last month, Ms. Alcantara's electric meter reads 8765 kWh. How much will she pay for power generation if the charge of electric company per kWh is 6.88 pesos and her electric meter reads 9975 this month?
A. ₱ 8765.00
B. ₱ 8324.80
C. ₱ 1210.00
D. ₱ 3457.42
Answer: B. ₱ 8324.80
Computation:
In order to compute for the amount Ms. Alcantara has to pay for power generation, solve first for the kilowatts used by subtracting the previous reading with the current reading such that, 9975 – 8765 = 1210 kWh. Then, multiply this consumption with the amount of per kilowatt which is ₱6.88 such that 1210kWh X ₱6.88 = ₱8324.80. Therefore, Ms. Alcantara has to pay ₱8324.80 for this month.
Notes:
To calculate your own electric bill, consider the power rate of your appliances using the formula: P = VI where P refers to the power which is measured by watts, V refers to voltage that is measured by volts, and I refers to current which is measured by amperes.
In computing the power rating of a particular appliance, the unit is in kilowatt (kW) which is equal to 1000 watts. All of the appliances in a household may have a combined power rating, that is why, energy is usually computed based on the time of usage of the appliances. To get the total energy used by an appliance in an hour, multiply the power consumption by the one hour as in the formula: E = Pt which stands for energy is equals to power times time.
