Long time ago, in the 13th century, there was a man named Tuan Masha'ika. He came to Jolo and later on, He then married the daughter of a local chieftain and bore children. They were raised as Muslims.
Another man named Rajah Baguinda, a Muslim from Menangkabaw region of Sumatra came to Jolo on a sail craft in the 14th century. He then married the daughter of a local chief and established Islam in Buansa.
Once, again another man named Sayyid Abu Bakr, he is an Arab came to Buansa in the 15th century and lived with Raja Baguinda. Later on, Abu Bkr married Paramisuli the daughter of Raja Baguinda. A year after, Abu Bkr introduced the study of Quran and won the people to Islam. Because of his knowledge of Islam. He too established Islamic sultanate in the entire place.
Up to the present, Muslim missionaries from other countries in the world came to Philippines trying to convert Filipinos to become Islam. Some are converted and some are not especially if a Filipino is rooted with Christian doctrine.
This is how Islam propagated in the entire Mindanao, they lived for quite so long until Spaniards came to Philippines to propagate Christianity. The Muslims did not like Spaniards and so they formed themselves to resist Christian conversion. Blood spilled during Spaniards time in the Philippines.
